Marriage

Marriages are by appointment and, except in exceptional circumstances, need six months notice.
The wedding will be officiated at by either the Parish Priest or the Permanent Deacon.
To married at the Sacred Heart one of the couple needs to be a baptised Roman Catholic.
If the Roman Catholic is not resident in the parish they will need the written Canonical Permission of the Parish Priest of the parish in which they reside.

The couple are expected to take part in a Marriage Preparation Process that falls into two parts:

    1. Administration and Theological and Spiritual preparation with either the Parish Priest or the Permanent Deacon, which will include help with the preparing the Service.
    2. A Marriage Preparation Course organised by Marriage Care and usually held on a Sunday at St Alban's, Macclesfield in March/April or October/November between 10.00 am -3.30 pm

Civilly we have three authorized persons in the Parish who deal with the Civil Registration on the day.
Before the wedding each of the couple will need to obtain a Certificate for Marriage from the Superintendent Registrar of the District in which they live.
Civilly one of the couple must by law have a residence in either the High Peak or Macclesfield District.  If the Roman Catholic’s residence is in Disley (Macclesfield Registration District) they need to tell the Registrar that the Sacred Heart is their normal place of worship.

For Civil purposes the Sacred Heart is known as: The Catholic Church, Whaley Lane, Whaley Bridge, Yeardsley cum Whaley.
